Netflix, Sony Pictures Ink Exclusive Movie-Streaming Deal

From PC Mag: Netflix has snagged the exclusive rights to stream all new Sony Pictures Entertainment movies, beginning with 2022 US theatrical releases.

The deal, which builds on an existing contract with Sony Pictures Animation, now includes all SPE film labels and genres. (Yes, that means future installations of the Spider-Man, Jumanji, and Bad Boys franchises.)

US Netflix users can look forward to major motion pictures like Morbius, Uncharted, Where the Crawdads Sing, and Bullet Train next year, followed by the sequel to 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and "several more" movies featuring Marvel characters.

"Sony Pictures is a great partner and we are thrilled to expand our relationship through this forward-thinking agreement," Scott Stuber, head of global films at Netflix, said in a statement. "This not only allows us to bring their impressive slate of beloved film franchises and new [intellectual property] to Netflix in the US, but it also establishes a new source of first-run films for Netflix movie lovers worldwide."
