Report: Valve Is Working on QR Code Logins for Steam, Steam Deck

From PC Mag: Signing into Steam requires typing in an account name and password, but that may not be the case for much longer.

As PC Gamer reports, Pavel Djundik, who created SteamDB and is a well-known data miner, discovered references to a QR code login process in Steam's code. He also tweeted out a screenshot of a Steam login page that included a scannable QR code.

Being able to scan a code using the Steam mobile app is more convenient than typing in a username and password, but there's another good reason Valve may be implementing this now. The Steam Deck handheld is launching in December and will require users to log in to their Steam account, but it doesn't have a keyboard (unless you plug one in).

Typing on a small touch screen can be frustrating, so this could be Valve's solution to that problem. QR code scans for an easy Steam Deck login process makes a lot of sense; you'd simply bring up the QR code on the Steam Deck's screen and then scan it with the Steam app on your smartphone. After a few seconds, your Steam Deck would log in automatically with no typing required.
