From PC Mag: Earlier this month, Raspberry Pi suffered its first ever price increase, but now we're getting a new and very cheap successor to the Pi Zero.
The Pi Zero was first introduced back in 2015 for $5. It's a smaller version of the standard Pi with reduced input/output capabilities and was subsequently updated in 2017 to add Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, becoming the Pi Zero W for $10. The performance never changed, though, mainly due to how little space there is to play with on such a small board. That changes today, though.
The Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W offers up to five-times the performance of its predecessor depending on the type of workload, while retaining the same form factor as the Pi Zero. That means the majority of existing cases and accessories should continue to work. The updated board uses the same Broadcom BCM2710A1 SoC found on the first Raspberry Pi 3, but down-clocked to 1GHz and complimented by 512MB of LPDDR2 RAM.
