From PC Mag: Google is making it easier to start or join video meetings or audio calls from inside the Gmail app.
Starting this week, it will be possible to initiate a video chat or audio call from within Google Chat in Gmail, but only during one-on-one conversations. Both Android and iOS users will gain access to the new feature, with call and video icons appearing in the chat window next to the other person's name.
To trigger a call, simply tap either icon and wait for the other user to accept and enter the call. When someone is on an active call the Google Meet icon and the call duration will be will be visible in the chat roster. If you've missed a call request, a red phone or video icon will be displayed on the chat roster and within the conversation of the person who tried to call you.
The new feature started rolling out to all users across Android and iOS yesterday, but it could take until Dec. 21 before it appears for everyone. It's unclear what happens if one of your friends gains access to the feature before you do, but it seems likely the phone and video icons simply won't appear in the chat window.
