From PC Mag: TikTok clearly doesn't like it when creators jump over to Twitch for a live streaming session, so it decided to create an rival app and service called TikTok Live Studio.
As TechCrunch reports, TikTok Live Studio looks to be a replacement for Twitch. It's a desktop Windows app that allows live streaming of PC, console, or mobile device screens, includes camera support so audiences can see the person streaming, and there's a chat interface. Of course, you'll need to be logged in to your TikTok account to use it.
For now, Live Studio is only being offered to a very small group of TikTok creators and is "super basic" according to Zach Bussey who tweeted a number of screenshots of the app you can see above. Even so, this is clearly TikTok attempting to compete directly with Twitch, and in doing so, remove the need to leave TikTok for extended live streaming sessions of games or other content.
TikTok has told TechCrunch that there's no guarantee Live Studio will ever make it out of the testing phase. The fact it exists at all demonstrates TikTok sees an opportunity to remove a need to leave its platform to continue watching streamed content, and because of that I'd be surprised if it didn't eventually become a feature all creators can use.
