From PC Mag: Microsoft employees in the US no longer need to worry about accruing enough vacation time in order to take a break.
As The Verge reports, Microsoft is set to offer all salaried US employees unlimited time off starting on Jan. 16, even those workers who only just started at the company.
The announcement was made in an internal memo to employees by Microsoft's chief people officer Kathleen Hogan, who explained, "How, when, and where we do our jobs has dramatically changed ... And as we’ve transformed, modernizing our vacation policy to a more flexible model was a natural next step."
It will officially be called "Discretionary Time Off" (DTO) and won't be offered to hourly workers due to the difficulties posed by "federal and state wage and hour laws." Microsoft employees outside the US are subject to a wide variety of employment laws and regulations, which is why this offer is being restricted to the US for now.
