From ExtremeTech: It's no secret that Chinese gamers and other nationals have recently been clamoring to acquire as many RTX 4090 GPUs as possible. Nvidia's flagship gaming GPU was officially banned from being sold in the country on Nov. 17 out of fears the cards would be repurposed for military and AI applications. Now it appears Nvidia has allegedly created an entirely new variant just for China that will comply with the new restrictions, allowing the cards to be sold again.
The new RTX 4090 die's naming scheme has been revealed on Twitter as AD102-250, which is much different than the existing card, which uses AD102-300. As Videocardz notes, when there's a small change to a GPU, the die number will change by a single digit. For example, Nvidia launched the RTX 4090 with the AD102-300 die but then changed it to AD102-301 in March. This big change with this new die was just a tweak to the card's voltages, lowering the maximum from 1.1V to 1.07V, according to the Redditor who discovered it on their Founders Edition card. Having it go from 300 to 250 indicates it's an entirely different kettle of fish.
