From PC Mag: If you don't use OneDrive, you can finally dismiss prompts for Microsoft's cloud backup service in Windows 11 25H2. The next time a OneDrive pop-up appears asking you to protect your files, you can simply opt out of further suggestions, Windows Latest reports.
With Windows 11, Microsoft integrated several of its first-party services more deeply than before. OneDrive was a big part of that, and every time you installed Windows 11, you'd be prompted to install it. Often, the only way to avoid it was to select "skip for now" or "remind me in 3 days," so a pop-up was always looming.
Now, however, when the "Protect your files" reminder appears in Windows 11, it includes a new Opt out of backup selection. Click it, and the notice will no longer appear. Microsoft tries to upsell you on the idea beforehand, promising to effectively backup your PC's files and folders, retain memories, and sync across your devices. If you don't want it, though, you can now say so, and Microsoft will seemingly respect that choice.
OneDrive is a capable backup solution; it earned our Editors' Choice award for its overall completeness, reliability, and polish. But if you already have a cloud backup service of choice, the pop-ups could get annoying. Microsoft offers several methods to pause OneDrive syncing with Windows or unlink it from your main account. But that's a lot of hoops to jump through.
