As a car enthusiast, I have always imagined what it would feel like to drive a road car with four-digit horsepower. Yes, there are supercars with over 1,000 horsepower if you are incredibly wealthy. You can choose from Bugattis and Koenigseggs to experience that level of power. However, for an average Joe like me, getting anywhere near those cars is nearly impossible. I wanted something that has those specifications without that price. In that case, I looked to the Tesla Model S Plaid, a four-door sedan boasting 1020 horsepower, priced only slightly higher than the average annual household income in the United States. Some might argue that achieving 1000 horsepower with electric motors is cheating, but let us be real, today’s flagship Ferraris and Lamborghinis also rely on hybrid systems to break the four-digit horsepower barrier. At the end of the day, there is nothing wrong with using electric motors to achieve mind-blowing performance, especially when affordability comes into play. Speaking of four-digit power outputs using electricity, today’s review unit, the FSP Vita GM 1000W PSU, is a relatively budget-friendly power supply capable of delivering a kilowatt of power. But is it actually a good product? Let us dive in and find out!
Today’s review unit was shipped from the company's American headquarters in Chino, California, USA to us here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada via FedEx International Economy. You can see the parcel is generally in good shape, therefore there is no need to be nervous about the safety of whatever is inside the box. After more than a thousand miles of transportation, I could only see a small dent on the top left corner.
After pulling the review unit out of the shipping box, we can get a closer looker at the retail package. The overall design of the package is quite simple. From the front view, the only large font you can see is the product name, Vita GM 1000W. A photo of the power supply unit is shown in the middle of the box, along with feature highlights via the use of icons printed around. By looking at the retail package in the front view, you can get a reasonable amount of information about this product. However, to dig in more, you really need to look at the back side of the box. On the flip side of the box, there is a specifications table, which indicates how much power it can deliver at each voltage level. All of the important features of this power supply unit are located at the back of the package as well. Generally speaking, the retail package design does its job. By just glancing at the package shortly, customers can easily find the most important information about this product, its form factor, and supported power output.
One interesting thing is the Cybenetics Gold certification badge. According to Cybenetic's website, the FSP Vita GM 1000W is actually Cybenetics Platinum certified, which is even better than advertised.

Opening the box, you can see all the things you would expect from a power supply unit package. There is the power supply unit itself and a set of accessories. It is worth mentioning inside of the box, the power supply unit is protected by cardboard brackets. Since it is a fully modular power supply unit, the cables are provided separately from the PSU. The cables are pretty heavy, which means there are quite a few cables inside. There is a user instruction provided for your convenience. You can also find a bag of screws for you to install it in your computer case, and a Velcro strap for cable management.
