As a car enthusiast, I have always been fascinated by how quickly the performance landscape can change when a new player shows up. For decades, the car culture map remained unchanged: JDM legends built on clever engineering and tuner potential, European sports cars defined by heritage and refinement, and American muscle celebrated for big displacement and drag racing drama. But in the last few years, there has been a new kind of momentum building, which is Chinese EVs. They are not just catching up anymore, they are showing up with outrageous specs, aggressive pricing, and a pace of iteration that feels closer to consumer electronics than traditional automotive cycles. And then there is Xiaomi, a company many people still associate with phones and gadgets, stepping into the EV world with a seriously powerful sports sedan. Sure, you might not see these cars on Canadian or American roads yet, and there are still plenty of question marks about long-term reliability, global support, and brand legacy. However, car culture is all about good stories, identity, and value. If Chinese EVs keep delivering high performance per dollar, they may eventually carve out their own distinct lane. Speaking of delivering big numbers through electricity at a lower price point, today’s review unit, the SAMA G1000 1000W PSU, comes from a Chinese brand that is still relatively new to the North American power supply market. On paper, it promises that same tempting formula, which is, a kilowatt-class product with strong value. Just like with a new EV brand, the real question is not the headline specifications, it is the execution. Is it actually good? Let us read on and find out.

Today’s review unit was shipped from Amazon Fulfillment Center in Rocky View County, Alberta, Canada to us here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada via Amazon. Along with this PSU, the SAMA V60 computer case was sent to us for review, which I will cover in a few weeks from now. You can see the two parcels are generally in good shape, therefore there is no need to be nervous about the safety of whatever is inside the box.

After pulling the review unit out of the shipping box, we can get a closer looker at the retail package. The overall design of the package is quite simple. From the front view, the only large font you can see is the manufacturer and product name, SAMA G1000. A photo of the power supply unit is shown in the middle of the box, along with feature highlights via the use of icons printed around. By looking at the retail package in the front view, you can get a reasonable amount of information about this product. To make the cardboard box feel less plain, a diagonal blue band adds a pop of color. Generally speaking, the retail package design does its job. By just glancing at the package shortly, customers can easily find the most important information about this product, its form factor, and supported power output.
One interesting thing is the 80 Plus Gold certification badge. Typically, 80 Plus Gold means it is also Cybenetics Gold certified. According to Cybenetic's website, the SAMA G1000 1000W is actually Cybenetics Platinum certified at both 115V and 230V, which is even better.
Before digging into details, let us take a look at the specifications of the SAMA G1000 1000W, as obtained from the manufacturer's website:

Opening the box, you can see all the things you would expect from a power supply unit package. There is the power supply unit itself and a set of accessories. It is worth mentioning inside of the box, the power supply unit is protected by foam brackets. Since it is a fully modular power supply unit, the cables are provided separately from the PSU. The cables are pretty heavy, which means there are quite a few cables inside. There is a user instruction provided for your convenience. You can also find a bag of screws for you to install it in your computer case and some Velcro straps for cable management.
