Foxconn Set to Offer Software Services

From X-bit Labs: The head of Hon Hai Precision Industry (better known as Foxconn) not only wants to keep his company the world’s largest contract maker of consumer electronics, but go further and develop software for its clients. No exact details are known, but the plan seems to be very ambitious.

"Integration of software and hardware is the future. Taiwan is our first step (for 4G business). We will work with global operators in the future, and this will also help our design in the next generation smartphone," said Terry Gou, the head of Foxconn Electronics, at Kaohsiung software technology park in Taiwan, reports Reuters news-agency.

Without giving out details, Mr. Gou revealed that Foxconn would focus on developing new technologies, intellectual property rights and e-commerce, in a bid to move away from the its core contract manufacturing business that yields low margins, with research and development, software and patent rights the focal points.

Earlier this year Foxconn invested into Mozilla, a leading software company that develops Firefox browser as well as Firefox operating system for mobile devices.
