From DailyTech: According to a blog post by Patrick Buechner, general manager of the Maxis Emeryville studio, the next update of SimCity (Update 10) will allow for city-building gameplay minus the internet connection.
"Let’s get right to it. SIMCITY OFFLINE IS COMING!" said Buechner. "I’ve wanted to say those words for quite some time.
"From me, and everyone at the studio, thank you again for staying with us. We look forward to getting Offline for SimCity into your hands as soon as possible."
Buechner didn't give a specific release date for the new offline feature, but did give some insight on what this means for SimCity fans. In Update 10, SimCity gamers will be able to log into their cities, where all of the previously downloaded content will be available. The online game remains the same, but there will now be a single player mode that allows you to play offline on your own. This means gamers can just save and load the game instead of using the cloud auto-saving feature.
This is great news for SimCity gamers that have asked for an offline option for some time now, especially after Electronic Arts (EA) released a SimCity comeback in 2013 that had major server errors. EA added more servers to eventually fix the problem.
For those who don't have an internet connection (or do, but a poor one), today is your day.
