MacBook Pro Killer? New Razer Blade Packs an Enviable Spec

From DailyTech: For a while if you wanted an ultrabook with a moderately power discrete GPU you had a single option -- Apple, Inc.'s (AAPL) MacBook Pro in Boot Camp mode. The last couple years, though, have been a renaissance of sorts with brands like The Lenovo Group, Ltd. (HKG:0992) and MSI (Micro-Star International Comp. Ltd. (TPE:2377)) offering gaming-minded ultrabooks that flirted with affordability. But in terms of build quality, one PC maker has distinguished itself from the pack in recent years -- Razer.

Razer is a gaming-centric brand that is privately held. It's backed by a bit of venture capital, but much of the ownership still lies with cofounders Robert "Razerguy" Krakoff (its current Chairman) and Min-Liang Tan (its current CEO).

Razer first introduced its branded laptop -- the Razer Blade -- in early 2012, with a steep $2,799 USD entry fee. The product has flourished and has enjoyed a number of follow ups. The latest Razer Blade refresh was announced on Tuesday and it looks to continue the brand's growing legacy in the gamer ultrabook niche.

The new Razer Blade packs a mean punch. Razer begins with a precision-cut CNC aluminum chassis (competitive with Apple's current MacBook Pro) and adds gaming-centric features including a backlit "gaming grade" keyboard and custom trackpad. The keys feature anti-ghosting technology and are programmable via Razer's Synapse firmware package.
