When I was a child, I found that I always was a bit warmer than most people. One story my mom loves telling was the time I was getting off my school bus in elementary school. I was probably around grade three, and my mom was at the stop to pick me up and walk home with me. However, it was in the middle of winter, and it had been heavily snowing. Regardless, as I jumped off the bus, I was unzipping my winter jacket and telling my mom how hot it was on the bus. I removed layer by layer until it was just my arms showing and I observed steam rising from my arms. Even to this day, I rarely wear long sleeves unless it is cold. In general, I still prefer a cooler environment, as I can always put on clothes to warm up, but I can only take off so much clothing when it is too hot. In some ways, I think I am a bit like a processor, as I would prefer a cold place and would want things to help keep me cool rather than warm me up. There are many products that can keep processors cool, including air coolers. Today, we have the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 6, which is the latest CPU cooler from the German manufacturer. We have seen its predecessor, the Dark Rock Pro 5 and Dark Rock Elite, but how will our latest one perform? Is it still a capable option for these recent heat producers? Let us read on to find out!

Today's review unit of the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 6 arrived from electronics retailer Newegg in Ontario, California, USA. Traveling via UPS and their Standard ground service, this box came to our APH Networks location here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The corrugated cardboard box was a bit worn with its rounded edges and corners, but there is nothing here that suggests any damage to the products inside. Along with the Dark Rock Pro 6, we also received the Dark Rock 6, which I will also be reviewing. There were some packing bubbles inside to prevent further damage.

The retail container of the two be quiet! coolers look the same as every other product from this manufacturer, which is not too surprising. This means there is a standard black box with the product displayed in the middle. The top right has a be quiet! logo, while the bottom has the product name. Around the box, there are some specifications and features of the cooler, but otherwise it is a minimal looking box. The only thing that is obvious from the box is the cooler's 300W TDP, but we will explore how this translates to performance later.
Before we continue, I have grabbed the specifications from the manufacturer's website for your viewing pleasure.

Out of the box, the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 6 is situated between several cardboard layers. The cooler with the fans attached is wrapped in a plastic bag as well. A small cardboard box is also nearby with the mounting accessories for AMD and Intel systems. According to the manufacturer, the Dark Rock Pro 6 can be installed on AMD AM5 / AM4 and Intel 1851 / 1700 / 1200 / 1150 / 1151 / 1155 sockets. Thankfully, be quiet! has packaged the separate parts into separate bags, making it easy to avoid mixing the hardware from the two sides. Finally, a long Philips screwdriver is included with the cooler, which is useful as the mounting screws are in tighter spaces.
