Intel's revenue outlook hurt by soft business PC demand

From CNET: Intel slashed its first-quarter revenue outlook by nearly $1 billion, due to weaker-than-expected business-desktop computer demand.

The company said Thursday it now expects to post $12.8 billion in sales, down from its prior view of $13.7 billion, which was already slightly below Wall Street expectations.

Shares sank 4 percent premarket to $31.

Intel, the world's biggest chipmaker, claimed the softer revenue stemmed from lower-than-expected refreshes of computers from the 14-year-old Windows XP operating system, particularly in small and medium businesses. Microsoft last year ended technical support for Windows XP, which has helped push more businesses and consumers to upgrade to newer machines.
