Rockstar Games' Parent Sues BBC Over Unauthorized "Grand Theft Auto" Drama

From DailyTech: The British Broadcast Corp. (BBC) -- Britain's state-owned news giant -- is in a legal row with Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (TTWO) -- the parent company of Rockstar Games. What maketh said row?

More or less -- the big mouth -- or careless wording of certain BBC public relations people. Apparently BBC was planning a TV show called "Game Changer" based loosely on the game franchise Grand Theft Auto. But wait -- it's not based on GTA in the way you're probably thinking.

This TV show is apparently supposed to chronicle the development/creation of the game and renegade pro-censorship lawyer Jack Thompson's fruitless quest to ban it (a quest which eventually got him disbarred -- permanently, but forever cemented his name in infamy). But rather than simply quietly script it as such and then release the old "all similarities to real person and events are merely coincidental", BBC News simply came out and said the show was based on the real life saga of Thompson and Rockstar.

It announced:

"A season of programmes and online activity involving the BBC’s biggest and best-loved brands, including Doctor Who, EastEnders, Radio 1, The One Show, Children in Need, BBC Weather and many more, including a new factual drama about the development of Grand Theft Auto on BBC Two and a documentary on Bletchley Park."
