From InfoWorld: Cisco this week announced its third acquisition in as many days with the intent to buy 1 Mainstream, a privately held provider of cloud-based video.
Cisco other two acquisitions this week focused on analytics. Cisco announced intentions to acquire Lancope for $452.5 million, for its network visibility and threat detection technology; and ParStream for its Internet of things data gathering and analysis wares.
1 Mainstream's cloud-based video platform is designed to launch live and on-demand "over-the-top" (OTT) video services on a variety of connected devices. OTT includes cloud-based technologies that allow innovation at a more rapid rate than traditional TV technologies, Cisco says.
1 Mainstream's cloud, which sits between content and connected devices, is used by content providers and traditional service providers to deliver content across most video streaming platforms. Cisco says its customers can use this to deliver new video services faster and make their entire channel lineup and content library available to subscribers on the Internet via TV, tablet or connected devices.
