From CNET: Oracle said Monday it had agreed to acquire Dyn, the web services provider hit by a massive internet attack in October that left dozens of popular websites inaccessible for several hours.
The privately held New Hampshire-based company is one of the biggest internet management companies in the country and one of a handful of companies that help manage the internet's domain name system, which links every web address to servers using a unique set of numbers.
The company was thrust into the public spotlight in October when hackers used what's known as a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) -- conscripting hordes of internet-connected devices like computers, routers and security cameras into a botnet -- to flood Dyn's servers with junk traffic, crippling them.
Terms of the sale were not revealed. Oracle representatives didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
