From PC Mag: Facebook's quest to prevent third-party groups from misusing your personal data has resulted in the temporary suspension of over 400 apps, and the ban of one particular personality quiz app, the company said on Wednesday.
The crackdown is part of Facebook's response to the Cambridge Analytica scandal, which involved a third-party personality quiz harvesting the personal details of as many as 87 million people, which was then transferred over to a UK political consultancy hired by the Trump campaign.
In March, Facebook pledged to audit thousands of third-party apps on the platform that had access to large amounts of user data. Two months later, it suspended 200 apps to investigate them for misuse of customer data.
Facebook said it has suspended more than 400 apps "due to concerns around the developers who built them or how the information people chose to share with the app may have been used — which we are now investigating in much greater depth," the company said in a blog post.
The 400 apps will face another round of audits to determine if they, in fact, misused any data, a Facebook spokeswoman said. If misuse is found, or the app developers refuse the audits, they'll be banned from the platform.
