Nvidia Releases 20th Shield TV Update, Launches Mobile App

From PC Mag: If you own a Nvidia Shield TV for your media streaming needs, you've probably been enjoying the regular updates and ongoing support for the box from Nvidia. The fact it's near stock Android with support for most apps you care about also helps, and having gaming as an option is welcome. This week, you have something else to enjoy: as well as another software upgrade, Nvidia launched a mobile app.

The Nvidia Shield TV mobile app is available for iOS and Android. It's basically a replacement for the Shield's remote, but it is capable of a lot more. You'll gain access to a virtual mouse touchpad, a virtual keyboard, D-pad, and the Android TV buttons (back, start/play/pause, home).

The app works as long as your Shield TV has the latest 7.1 upgrade installed. Simply connect your phone or tablet to the same network as your Shield TV and they will find each other. Then start using the app in place of your remote. The addition of a virtual keyboard alone is worth installing the app, as it will make entering usernames and passwords much less tedious.

As for the Shield TV Update 7.1, which is the 20th Nvidia has released, it includes a lot of new features. The GeForce Now free beta has been upgraded to include in-game chat and added support for keyboard and mouse. It also works with the new mobile app detailed above.
