OG Celebrates 10th Anniversary With a Gaming Giveaway

From PC Mag: Steam dominates the digital PC gaming space, but Valve's service has had some serious competition for the last decade in the form of GOG.com. In some ways, GOG is better than Steam, and this week it's reminding us why as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations.

GOG is different to Steam in two key ways. The first is a complete lack of DRM attached to the games it sells. If you purchase a game on GOG, you get full access to the files without them being tied to an account and requiring an Internet connection to check you're legal.

The second is GOG's ongoing work to ensure old games get updated to run on modern operating systems. Many classic games we all remember from decades ago are still playable today because of GOG. That mix of reclaimed classics and zero DRM has proved very popular with gamers around the world, and the reason it has survived in the shadow of Steam for 10 years.

Now, to celebrate the service's 10th anniversary, GOG is running a gaming giveaway as well as offering some discounted Anniversary Collections of games. For the giveaway, GOG is asking the community to vote for Firewatch, Shadow Warrior 2, or Superhot. Whichever game gets the most votes will be offered for free for 48 hours on Oct. 4.
