From Forbes: Depending on what you're reading, Huawei has either had a banner or nightmare year. If you follow consumer tech, you might have read all the rave reviews for Huawei's 2018 flagship phones and laptop, and all the internal sales goal the Chinese tech giant is surpassing. If you follow business/political news, you've likely read about all the troubles Huawei has had with the U.S. government, and the latter's continual attempts to get allies to join its side.
As is usual with giant corporations, both can be true. Huawei's smartphones have indeed made great strides in the past year, not just in sales numbers, but in reputation. English media in the west that used to scoff at Chinese phones now see Huawei handsets as the same level as Apple and Samsung phones in terms of innovation, craftsmanship and implementation of cutting-edge tech. I'm seeing more and more Huawei phones used in Hong Kong, a city that doesn't exactly love products from China. All my personal observations are confirmed by Huawei's current CEO Ken Hu in a press conference this week held in the company's Dongguan campus.
According to Hu, the company will, by Christmas, have shipped 200 million units of smartphones in 2018 globally, a new watermark for the company, helping the company achieve more than $100 billion in revenue.
