Microsoft Teams Up with Activision for Xbox 360 “Modern Warfare 2” Limited Edition Console

From X-bit Labs: Microsoft Corp. on Tuesday announced a new “special edition” version of Xbox 360 game console with enlarged hard disk drive and rich bundle. The console will be stylized in accordance with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 title by InfinityWard/Activision and may give birth to Xbox 360 Elite 250GB game console.

Beginning with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s worldwide release on the 10th of November, fans can arm themselves with Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 limited edition console, which features an exclusive design inspired by the game, 250GB hard disk drives, two Xbox 360 wireless controllers, an Xbox 360 headset, Ethernet cable, composite video cable and a copy of Modern Warfare 2 for an estimated retail price of $399.99.

The bundle of Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 is very similar to that of Xbox 360 Elite – which comes with 120GB hard drive and one wireless controller – that retails for $299. For additional $100 gamers get a popular title, enlarged hard drive as well as additional wireless controller.

Considering the fact that Microsoft’s main rival on video game market, Sony Computer Entertainment, is gearing up to release PlayStation 3 with 250GB hard drive later this year (according to media reports), it is highly likely that Microsoft will eventually upgrade its Elite offering as well. Since the cost of hard drives is not high, the potential Xbox 360 Elite 250GB is more than likely to retain $299 price-point. The hard drive upgrade will allow Xbox 360 Elite to better compete against PS3 slim 120GB, which also features Blu-ray, Bluetooth connectivity and build-in Wi-Fi controller, something that Microsoft Xbox 360 lacks (unless special accessories are bought separately).
