From PC World: Google cofounder Sergey Brin has some choice words for Microsoft, Amazon, Yahoo, and anyone else who opposes the into e-books: Back off, we're trying to help the readers. In an op-ed for the New York Times, Brin challenges some of the arguments critics have raised against the project and resulting settlement with authors and publishers. Notably, Brin says this is not an issue of consumer choice, because without releasing the scanned e-books, there's no choice at all, save for traveling to obscure libraries around the world. "The agreement limits consumer choice in out-of-print books about as much as it limits consumer choice in unicorns," Brin wrote.
