From DailyTech: Dell has been working hard to produce machines that not only perform well for consumers and business users, but also look good. With the computer market being hit hard by the poor global economy Dell has apparently finally realized that machines costing in the thousand dollar range simply aren’t selling well. The thin Dell Adamo notebook unveiled in March was very thin and visually appealing, but the massive price tag for the machine left many consumers looking but not buying. Dell has announced a new ultraportable that has the Adamo's super-thin 0.65-inch profile, but only a fraction of the Adamo's price at $450. The machine is called the Vostro V13. The thin mainstream notebook weighs less than the Adamo at 3.5 pounds. Despite the small stature of the machine, it packs in the connectivity shoppers expect with eSATA, Ethernet, USB and a memory card reader. Video-out duties are handled by a VGA port. The thin notebook has a screen measuring 13.3-inches and runs an ultra-low voltage Core 2 Duo processor. The rig includes 4GB of RAM, Bluetooth, 802.11g/n WiFi and has a built-in webcam and mic. Exactly how much storage the machine has is unknown, but between 160GB and 320GB would be a good guess. At the selling price, an SSD is out of the question. Business users may be the focus for the machine, but the average consumer will be intrigued by the Vostro V13 as well. Dell should have a real winner on its hands assuming battery life and performance are as appealing as the price and thin profile of the V13. View: Article @ Source Site |
