From InfoWorld: Acquisition-happy Oracle has made its first purchase of the year, announcing late Monday that it has scooped up Westminster, Colo., data-quality vendor Silver Creek Systems. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Silver Creek's DataLens software helps companies simplify and standardize product descriptions across the various information stores in their business. Better product data quality benefits various industries in different ways, such as by improving a retail chain's online shopping experience, or helping a services company create a single, definitive service catalog, Oracle said in a presentation released with the announcement. Oracle competes in data quality and data integration with a range of vendors, including IBM, Informatica, and Pitney Bowes. Silver Creek's technology will boost the capabilities of Oracle's Product Hub and work alongside its SCM (supply chain management), CRM (customer relationship management) and Agile PLM (product lifecycle management) software, according to a statement.
