OCZ Launches RevoDrive: Cost-Efficient PCIe SSD

From X-bit Labs: OCZ Technology Group on Monday released its RevoDrive PCI Express solid-state drive that offers exceptional performance amid moderate price. The novelty redefines the market of PCIe SSDs, which previously were only available for advanced systems and were very expensive.

OCZ RevoDrive SSDs features up to 540MB/s read speed, up to 480MB/s write speed along with 400MB/s sustained write speed, a colossal performance promise. The drives random 4KB write reaches 75 000 IOPS. The new SSD is based on two SandForce 1200-series controllers since in order to reach unbelievable performance levels it sports internal RAID 0 design. This means that the drive cannot support Trim function of modern operating systems and thus its unbelievable speed will degrade over time. The product is designed for PCI Express x 4 slot.

Unlike competing PCIe solutions designed mostly for high-end applications that work 24/7, the RevoDrive is bootable, ensuring the satisfaction of quicker boot-ups, load times, and computing,

“The RevoDrive is the first PCIe SSD that delivers both performance and affordability and radically alters the SSD landscape. Up to this point PCIe SSDs have been reserved for enterprise applications and priced out of the range of many consumers, the bootable RevoDrive SSD changes the game by delivering a PCIe-based solution that costs as low as $3 per gigabyte, exceptional small file write IOPS of over 80K, which is the most available in any low-cost solution, said Ryan Petersen, CEO of the OCZ Technology Group.

OCZ RevoDrive will be initially available in 120GB and 240GB capacities, with MSRPs of $389.99 and $699.99.
