Sony Launches New PlayStation 3 Versions for Japan

From X-bit Labs: Sony Computer Entertainment on Tuesday revealed two new PlayStation 3 models that will, at least initially, available only in Japan. One of the new systems boasts larger hard disk drive and another has white colour of its case. The new products boast new model number and hence can also feature slightly different hardware.

The new PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system with 160GB and 320GB hard disk drive (HDD) will become available on July 29, 2010 in Japan at a recommended retail price of ¥29 980 ($343) and ¥34 980 ($401) (including tax) respectively. The new models belong to CECH-2500-series of products, which seems to be a brand-new hardware version of the PS3. The 160GB version is available in black and white colours, whereas the 320GB version is only available in black.

Additionally, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan will introduce a PlayStation 3 Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting Recorder Pack, that comprises the 160GB PS3 system and Torne, digital terrestrial tuner and application. The special bundle pack will become available together with the release of the new PS3 systems as a limited offer at a RRP of ¥36 980 ($424).

It can be expected that the new PlayStation 3 models CECH-2500 will become available in other parts of the world as well in the short-term future.
