Research in Motion Plans BlackPad

From X-bit Labs: Research In Motion, the maker of the BlackBerry smartphones, plans to introduce a tablet computer in November to compete with Apple Pad, and other devices of this kind, Bloomberg news-agency reported on Friday. Although there are rumours the company has established “BlackPad” domain name, there are still no precise details about the product itself.

According to a Bloomberg report, the device from RIM will have 9.7” screen, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and other features natural to slates. A surprise is that the report claims that in order to connect to the Internet the BlackPad will require a BlackBerry device.

A slate will allow its owners to get more content than Blackberry typically has to offer. Question is whether business users of Blackberry do need that content.

RIM did not comment on the news-story.
