From DailyTech: Blizzard-Activision's Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty -- the first in a trio of upcoming games -- launched last week. Long delays did little but build the anticipation for the title, which burned up sales charts. Even reports of minor bugs and GPU overheating issues failed to derail the railroad momentum of this mammoth release. The game moved over 1 million copies on its launch day -- a huge launch for a PC title. Battle.net already has 1.2 million registered users (including 620 thousand in the U.S.) -- another early testament to how popular the game is. CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, Mike Morhaime claims that the title is the best-selling strategy game of all time and the best-selling PC game of 2010, so far. He states, "We launched StarCraft II in 11 different languages and on 5 different continents because we wanted to make sure as many players as possible were able to log on and play on day one," said Mike. "We're pleased that so many people around the world have already picked up a copy of the game, and we look forward to welcoming even more players to Battle.net in the weeks and months ahead." Bob McKenzie, senior vice president of merchandising at GameStop, says that Starcraft II: WOL is not only the best-selling PC title of 2010, but the best-selling PC title since 2008 when the World of Warcraft expansion Wrath of the Lich King launched. He states, "GameStop had more than 3,000 stores open at midnight, so our StarCraft players got a jump start on playing the epic experience Blizzard consistently delivers with its games. StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is officially GameStop's fastest-selling PC game since Blizzard launched World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King in 2008." View: Article @ Source Site |
