ATI Radeon HD 6000 May Launch Later Than Expected - Rumours

From X-bit Labs: A market rumour claims that AMD's graphics business unit will delay the release of the highly-anticipated next-generation Radeon HD 6000-series by several weeks from the originally set schedule in the second half of October, 2010.

Apparently, AMD Radeon HD 6000-series graphics cards, the first graphics card to carry AMD brand instead of ATI, will only be released sometimes in November, a news-story at DigiTimes web-site claims. The reason for the delay is not exactly named, but the general suggestion is that AMD's graphics business unit wants to supply enough cards to the channel in ahead of launch.

Not a lot is known about the code-named Northern Islands family of products. The new family of graphics processing units will offer higher performance compared to currently available ATI Radeon HD 5000 “Evergreen” line as well as new universal video decoder 3.0, but will hardly be considerably more advanced in terms of feature-set. It is rumoured that designers of the new GPUs concentrated mostly on improving efficiency, but not on building something completely new from scratch, which is why certain building blocks of the new family will be inherited from the current Evergreen line.
