Angry Birds slingshotting to PS3, XBox 360, and Wii next year

From CNET News.com: Angry Birds on the big screen? No, a movie deal hasn't been inked yet, but console versions are in the works. According to a BBC blog, Rovio, the developer of the megapopular smartphone game, is hoping to release Angry Birds on the PS3, XBox 360, and Wii next year.

Also in the works: Angry Birds 2. The new game will apparently have more pigs--and they'll be more active.

"It won't be a sequel or a prequel but a different type of game featuring the same characters," said Rovio CEO Peter Vesterbacka. "The pigs will be a lot more active than just being slingshotted at by birds."

Angry Birds isn't the first mobile title to head to home consoles, but Vesterbacka says it will become more common. "The smartphone gaming platform is actually turning out to be the biggest and most played out there," he said. "So it's starting to beat the traditional games on consoles and PCs."

No word on whether Angry Birds for consoles will have motion-control support (we assume it might). And alas, we have a bad feeling that EA, which recently bought Finland-based Rovio for $20 million, won't be pricing the console versions anywhere near the mobile version. Lest EA forget, part of the reason so many people downloaded the game is because it's 99 cents on the iPhone, free on Android smartphones, and $1.99 on the iPad.
