Sony Ericsson Expected to Reveal PlayStation Phone on December 9

From X-bit Labs: Sony Ericsson greatly anticipated PlayStation-branded phone may be closer than one might think. According to a flier, which picture was published by a web-site, Sony Ericsson will host an event in France on the 9th of December, where it would unveil "the most anticipated" gadget "of the past ten years".

The flier published by nowhereelse.fr is claimed to be an invitation to an event hosted by Pierre Perron, the head of Sony Ericsson in France. The event is described as "the most anticipated presentation of the past 10 years" and the flier includes traditional PlayStation button signs as well as a sign of a phone, which may point at the already known Sony Ericsson PlayStation phone.

The authenticity of the flier could not be verified at press time. The source of the flier was neither disclosed nor described by the publication.

Not a lot is known about the SE PS phone. Based on the information revealed earlier, the first ever PlayStation phone will resemble PSP Go portable game console, but will feature Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8655 system-on-chip clocked at 1.0GHz, 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM and so on. The smartphone that will reportedly be based on heavily customized version of Android 3.0 "Gingerbread" operating system will feature 3.7" - 4.1" screen similar to that of PSPgo.

The usage of the Google Android 3.0 "Gingerbread" implies that the PlayStation phone will not be released this year as the operating system will only be launched in 2011. Therefore, the presentation on the 9th of December may either be a non-public event for game developers or media, or may be just a formal announcement of the device. The latter seems rather unlikely as the formal introduction would spoil sales of PSP and PSPgo consoles during the holiday season.
