Virgin Mobile Unlimited Data Plans Get Limits

From DailyTech: The days of the unlimited internet plan for mobile devices are ending. Many “unlimited” data plans have fair use clauses allowing the carrier to charge you more or cut your speed once you hit a certain threshold.

The sad part for mobile users is that the threshold is often relatively small and simply streaming a few videos or grabbing a large OS update could easily put a user over the limit for the month. The latest company to vacate the true unlimited mobile internet space is Virgin Mobile. The company, however, still calls its plan unlimited.

After February 15, users who goes over 5GB in one month will see their download speeds cut. This speed cut will make it hard to do things like stream video. All Virgin Mobile plans are month-to-month so anyone getting new service or renewing after that February 15 date will get the new cap.

PC Magazine received an email from Virgin Mobile stating, "Customers who use BB2Go for typical email, internet surfing and reasonable downloading will likely not be impacted/notice any difference."

As PC Magazine points out, streaming Netflix while on the go will gobble up 450MB an hour leaving you only few hours to watch video legally before speeds are slashed.
