Synology Announces 4-bay DiskStation DS411slim NAS

From DailyTech: Synology is looking to improve upon its DS409slim NAS with the addition of a new model. The popular DS409slim is already known for its small size, 2.5" drive support, 128MB of RAM, and 1.2GHz processor. The new DS411slim retains the 2.5" drive support, but bumps up RAM to 256MB and incorporates a faster 1.6GHz processor.

Even though the processor and memory specs have been improved, power consumption is actually down for the DS411slim -- 9.6W in standby mode and 16.8W when data is being accessed. For comparison, the older DS409slim has power consumption ratings of 12W and 19W respectively.

Like its predecessor, the DS411slim ships with DiskStation Manage 3.0 software, features support for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, is fully compatible with DLNA, can operate as an Apple iTunes server and Time Machine backup device, and can be accessed from smartphones using either iOS or Android OS.

When it comes to storage capabilities, the DS411slim features four 2.5" drive bays (supports up to 4TB), two USB 2.0 ports, and one eSATA port. The NAS also features a single GbE network port, and wireless capabilities can be added via an optional dongle.

The DS411slim measures 120mm x 105mm x 142mm and weighs just 1.45 pounds.

“Don’t let the small size fool you. This is a full-fledged NAS server,” said Jason Bonoan, Product Marketing Manager for Synology America Corp. “From the breadth of integrated features to the ease of remote access, this comprises an incredible suite of solutions that mere DAS devices just can’t match.”
