7-inch Xoom in the Works, More Motorola Devices to Get Webtop Capability

From DailyTech: Though Motorola just recently released a tablet many have dubbed as the first true competitor to Apple's ubiquitous iPad -- the Xoom -- the mobile manufacturer is already working on a smaller, 7-inch model.

PCMag reports that Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha announced plans to build the smaller tablet at Morgan Stanley's Media and Telecom Conference yesterday, after calling Xoom sales "a good start." (He did not provide specific numbers.)

"There will be seven-inch, some version of eight-inch, some version of 10, 11 and 12-inch tablets," Jha said, though Motorola won't be supporting all the various sizes. The 7-inch model --the same size as Samsung's Galaxy Tab and the forthcoming souped up version of the Dell Streak -- is definitely in the works though, and Motorola will have other tablets out by the end of the year.

In addition to Motorola's tablet plans, the company is also expected to follow the model of its Atrix 4G for future smartphones. The Atrix differentiates itself from other devices by coming with a smartbook attachment that transforms the device into an Android netbook running a "webtop" Linux OS -- complete with a physical keyboard.

"From June onwards, most of our high-tier performance phones will have the Webtop capability," Jha said, adding that he hoped the Webtop browser will be upgraded to Firefox 4.0 by year's end.
