Sony Corp. Reorganizes, Will Operate as Two Groups

From DailyTech: Today, Sony Corporation announced a major executive-level reorganization "intended to facilitate the next phase of Sony's transformation into the world's leading provider of networked entertainment and solutions," the company said in a press release.

After the reorganization, Sony will function as two key groups: the "Consumer Products & Services Group," which will handle all consumer electronics and networked services; and the "Professional & Device Solutions Group," which will cater to B2B, component, and semiconductor business.

Sir Howard Stringer, Sony Corp.'s CEO, chairman, and president, will remain at the helm of the company. Meanwhile, Kazuo Hirai, currently executive vice president, will head up the Consumer Products & Services Group, while Hiroshi Yoshioka, a current executive deputy president, will lead the other new wing.

"This operational realignment will help accelerate Sony's growth and innovation by strategically focusing on our cross-company goals and aggressively utilizing our technological strengths, with the goal of providing great entertainment experiences and innovative solutions to customers around the world," Stringer said. "The new responsibilities of Kazuo Hirai and Hiroshi Yoshioka will enable us to concentrate on and, as appropriate, quickly shift resources to, areas where they will have the greatest impact on our overall business."

The changes have already been approved by Sony's Board of Directors earlier in the day and are set to go into effect April 1.
