Seagate Unveils New Storage Options for Enterprise Customers

From DailyTech: Seagate announced new products today that are for enterprise storage and include new HDD and SSD options.

The Pulsar.2 and Pulsar XT.2 are both new SSDs in the enterprise-class Pulsar line. The Pulsar.2 is a MLC SSD that has up to 800GB of storage and is designed for data integrity and consistent performance. The SSD has support for both 6Gb/s SAS and SATA 6Gb/s interfaces. The XT.2 is a SLC drive that is intended to be used with 6Gb/s SAS ports and will be offered in up to 400GB capacity. The new SSD is the fastest drive in the Seagate portfolio with 360MB/s reads and 300MB/s writes. The drive has sustainable random reads of 48K and writes at 22K IOPS. The XT.2 is shipping to OEMs right now.

“HP continues to see new opportunities for solid state storage technology as customers increase virtual system workloads, needing higher performance while reducing power requirements,” said Jim Ganthier, HP Industry Standard Software and Systems vice president of Marketing. “HP continues to look forward to storage technology advances from Seagate including wider SSD enablement across HP systems and workloads.”

Seagate has also unveiled the new Savvio 15K.3 and 10K.3 HDDs. The 10K.5 is the highest capacity 2.5-inch HDD in the world with up to 900GB of storage. The drive can be purchased with support for 6Gb/s SAS or 4Gb FCI. The 15K.3 is the highest performance HDD available according to Seagate. It is optimized for tier-1 storage applications and has 300GB or 146GB versions. Both of the Savvio drives are shipping to OEMs right now.

The final new drive is the Constellation ES.2. This drive has 3TB capacities and is designed for 24/7 operations. The drive also features new Seagate RAID Rebuild feature that allows for less lost productivity when a RAID has to be recovered. The drive connects to 3rd gen SAS interfaces and can be purchase for 6Gb/s SATA interface as well. The new drive is shipping to OEMs now and will hit the channel in Q2.
