Samsung's 8.9 ($469), 10.1 ($499) Galaxy Tabs Thinner than Apple's iPad 2

From DailyTech: When it comes to consumer products, it seems as though Apple is always on a quest to make each generation thinner and lighter than the previous. When Apple announced the iPad 2, it slimmed down to a thin 0.34 inches with weight coming in at just 1.33 pounds (Wi-Fi version).

Samsung isn't about to let Apple hog all the glory when it comes to thin tablets, and that is clearly the case with its new 8.9" and 10.1" Galaxy Tab. Both are 0.33 inches thin, just barely edging out the iPad 2. The tablets are light too, coming in at 1.04 pounds (8.9") and 1.31 pounds (10.1").

Both tablets are running Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), but they are saddled with the TouchWiz UX interface, for better or worse.

Both machines feature a 1GHz dual-core processor, dual cameras (3MP rear, 2MP front), 802.11a/b/n, Bluetooth, and a screen resolution of 1280x800. Both tablets will be available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB capacities. Battery capacity is 6000 mAh for the 8.9" model and 6800 mAh for the 10.1" model.

"The GALAXY Tab 10.1 and 8.9 are remarkable examples of Samsung's constant innovation and show our dedication to designing premium tablets that fit the unique needs of consumers around the world", said JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung's Mobile Communications Business. "By combining Samsung's innovations in design and display with our exciting new user experience, we've created a new class of products that will lead the tablet market."
