T-Mobile Offers Discounted Samsung Phones for Sidekick Users

From DailyTech: When T-Mobile announced a few days ago that it would be discontinuing Danger data service for Sidekick devices on May 31, the company said that it would provide offers for existing Sidekick users to help them transition to new devices before then.

Now, thanks to Tmonews, we know what that offer is: 50-percent off "select phones from Samsung when you select a new two-year agreement on a qualifying plan before April 5, 2011."

T-Mobile began sending out letters to Sidekick users explaining the cut-off and the offer. Existing Sidekick users -- if they so wish -- will still be able to make calls and send and receive text messages as of June 1, but that's about it. Mobile web services will not work, and most personal data, like contacts and calendar info, will be wiped after the device power cycles.

In addition to the offer on new Samsung devices, the carrier will be waiving early termination fees between March 31 and May 31 for Sidekick users if they choose to cancel their service and are still under contract. Of course, T-Mobile would prefer these customers to wait for the forthcoming Sidekick 4G (a Samsung-manufactured device, by the way), which will be available in "spring of 2011."
