Seagate Launches Wireless HDD for Apple iPad, Other Ultra-Portables

From X-bit Labs: Seagate Technology on Monday announced GoFlex Satellite mobile wireless storage, the first battery-powered external hard drive to wirelessly extend the storage capacity of any Wi-Fi enabled mobile device.

The GoFlex Satellite provides 500GB capacity that can be accessed using Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n interfaces and sports a rechargeable battery that sports up to 5 hours of battery life and up to 25 hours of standby time. The external hard disk drive also sports USB 3.0 interface.

This latest member of the GoFlex family provides the ability to carry a library of video, music, pictures and documents. Devices are wirelessly connected directly to the GoFlex Satellite drive by use of the free GoFlex Media app – available now on iTunes and the Apple App Store – or a web browser. The device can automatically sync media and documents from a Windows or Mac computers.

GoFlex Satellite is available immediately for preorder from Seagate.com, Amazon and BestBuy.com for a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $199.99, and is scheduled to arrive in Best Buy stores in July 2011. Global availability is planned for later this summer.
