Nintendo Wii to Drop to $150 on May 15

From DailyTech: Now that the proverbial cat is out of the bag about a planned successor to the Wii gaming console from Nintendo -- set to premiere next month at E3 -- the company is making a move that signifies a new launch is coming sooner rather than later.

As previously rumored, Nintendo today announced plans to drop the price of the Wii to $150 starting May 15. The system, which will be available in either black or white, will also come with Mario Kart Wii and a Wii Wheel in the box.

Additionally, Nintendo will launch a bargain-priced collection of games in a series called Nintendo Selects on the same day. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Mario Super Sluggers, and Wii Sports will all be initially available at a suggested retail price of $19.99.

"From the day it launched, Wii has let players of all ages and experience levels have fun with one another," Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said in a press release. "The new suggested retail pricing for both the hardware and select games will help create more of these magical moments for even greater numbers of people."

Part of the move may also be to shore up faltering profits, which saw a 66-percent decline in the first quarter of the year.
