From DailyTech: Motorola Mobility unveiled a new device yesterday that streams live TV to a connected IP device anywhere in a house. The Motorola Televation is a broadband device that employs a 1GHz digital tuner and CableCard to access broadcast TV channels from a coaxial outlet and then transcodes the programming in real-time to MPEG-4. It then changes the resolution and bit rate to match the capabilities of the viewing device, and broadcasts the picture via a Wi-Fi router. Any device connected to the home network can then view the broadcast. To keep the stream secure, Televation employs Motorola's own SecureMedia IPRM-HN technology. "Televation gives our customers the ability to launch a new service that puts innovation back into TV, enabling their subscribers to enjoy TV beyond the TV," said John Burke, senior vice president and general manager, Converged Experiences, Motorola Mobility. "As the digital home continues to evolve, Televation is one of many tools that MSOs can use to give consumers a more portable TV experience in the home so they can watch anytime and anywhere," added Comcast CTO Tony Werner. Motorola worked with Comcast Innovation Labs engineers to develop the new device. View: Article @ Source Site |
