Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook Lands This Week for $899

From DailyTech: Intel has been working hard to get the notebook realm to adopt its new Ultrabook platform. The chipmaker has vowed to secure a large portion of the notebook market with the Ultrabook platform. The big selling point of the Ultrabook that has been touted so far is the thin and light design.

Acer has gone official with the specs of its first Ultrabook complete with the launch date and price. The Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook and will hit stores this week for $899. For that price, you get a surprisingly well-featured machine with a 13.3-inch HD widescreen LED backlit display with a native resolution of 1366x768.

The Aspire S3 also has a HDMI output, memory card reader, and a headphone port. The webcam is a 1.3MP unit that can capture still phones and 24 fps video. It has 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0+ HSR technologies. The OS is on a 20GB SSD and the S3 has a 320GB HDD for storage and applications. It gets 4GB of RAM and Intel HD 3000 graphics.

The Aspire S3 has an Intel Core i5 processor and future versions will come with a Core i3 or a Core i7 option. The chassis of the S3 is made from magnesium alloy to make it very light with a weight of 2.98 and measurements of 12.59 inches by 8.52-inches by .51 to.68-inches. The machine vents heat though the keyboard and promises to last 50 hours on standby and six hours while in use.
