SanDisk Outs 120GB, 240GB Extreme SSDs

From DailyTech: SanDisk has announced the addition of a new SSD to its line up called the SanDisk Extreme SSD. The SSD promises to be 10 times faster than a traditional 7200rpm hard disk drive.

This means the computer using the new Extreme SSD can boot in under 16 seconds and shut down much quicker than systems using a standard hard disk drive for storage. The faster SSD also means quicker access and launch for applications and games. This SSD is also power efficient when idling making for less power consumption and longer battery life for notebooks.

"Computer wait times are becoming a thing of the past thanks to SSDs," said Kent Perry, director, product marketing, SanDisk. "Our SanDisk Extreme SSD delivers virtually instant boot and shutdown times along with faster application launches. It's a huge improvement to the computing experience."

The SanDisk Extreme SSD has performance of up to 83,000 maximum random write input-output operations per second the 44,000 random read IOPS. The drive also offers up to 550 MB per second sequential read speed and 520 MB per second sequential write speed.

SanDisk will offer the Extreme SSD in several storage capacities with 120 GB or 240 GB versions available now for $189.99 and $399.99 respectively. A larger 480 GB version of the SSD will ship this year for $749.99.
