Nokia Lumia 900 Hits AT&T for Under $100 on April 8

From DailyTech: If you're soon to be in the market for a new smartphone, and price is a major concern, AT&T is set to offer a new Nokia smartphone at a bargain price. CNET reports that AT&T will sell its Nokia Lumia 900 smartphone for $99.99 with a new two-year contract. AT&T offers other smartphones for less money, but this is notable as being the first time any smartphone maker's flagship device has sold at such a low price.

The argument could be made that with the sagging popularity of both Nokia and the Windows Phone Operating system the device uses, a cheap price is the only way it could sell. The Lumia 900 is hugely important for Nokia in North America and is the first smartphone it specifically designed for this market. Nokia and Microsoft are both putting a lot into their partnership for smartphones within the U.S. and other countries both companies need this device to be successful.

For under $100, the Lumia 900 will bring a 4.3-inch ClearBlack AMOLED display, eight-megapixel Carl Zeiss rear camera, and an 1830 mAh battery. AT&T will offer the phone in matte black or cyan blue on April 8 with a white version coming on April 22. Pre-orders will open on March 30 both in stores and online. The smartphone supports LTE networks as well.

AT&T is continuing the rollout LTE networks around the United States and will likely push this smartphone heavily.

Back in January during CES Nokia, AT&T, and Microsoft teased the aggressive price and launch in the "coming months." Now that we know is coming next month for under $100 it seems Nokia and the others are making good on their promise. It remains to be seen if consumers will be interested in the new smartphone even with the price under $100. Windows Phone has a hard time grabbing interest of consumers and developers so far.
