Micron Announces mSATA Solid-State Drives for Notebooks

From X-bit Labs: Micron Technology has introduced solid-state drives for ultra-thin notebooks and ultrabooks in mini Serial ATA (mSATA) form-factor. The new RealSSD C400 SSD are projected to offer high performance and reliability expected from modern personal computers.

Micron RealSSD C400 SSDs are based on Marvell 88S9174-BL02 controller and Micron/Intel multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory made using 25nm process technologies. The C400-series offers different capacities ranging from 32GB to 256GB and utilizes Serial ATA-600 interface (6Gb/s) interface. The SSDs deliver sequential read and write speeds of up to 500MB/s and 260MB/s, respectively.

The mSATA form-factor combined high-capacity SSD in a space that is about one-third of the size of a standard business card (3cm*5cm).

"Efficient memory and storage are key components to portable computing. Our new mSATA delivers on the true promise of SSD technology — high-performance storage in a tiny, low-power package. Breaking away from the constraints of enclosures meant for hard drives is a great step toward enabling truly mobile computing platforms," said Justin Sykes, Micron's general manager of client SSD solutions.
