Nvidia Provides Games Credits with Graphics Cards Purchases

From X-bit Labs: In an attempt to respond to AMD’s successful Never Settle Reloaded bundle, Nvidia Corp. on Monday quietly introduced its own campaign under which it will provide up to $150 worth of credits for three free-to-play (F2P) games. Gamers will be able to spend the money to make in-game purchases in titles.

Starting immediately, gamers in the U.S. will get $75 credit for Hawken, PlanetSide 2 and World of Tanks with the purchase of GeForce GTX 650 and GeForce GTX 650 Ti as well as $150 credit for the same games with the purchase of GeForce GTX 660 product or better. In different countries Nvidia customers will get similar kinds of benefits in the same free-to-play titles.

Even though the additional items in games that are widely available and distributed for free will improve gameplay for those who play Hawken, PlanetSide 2 and World of Tanks on premium hardware, they will still remain a far cry from two to six free AAA video games, such as BioShock Infinite, Crysis 3 or Tomb Raider, bundled with AMD Radeon.

Nvidia’s partners are well-known for bundling free games, software and accessories with their GeForce graphics cards. It is unclear why they company decided to provide F2P credit, which will barely be spent by all the gamers who will receive it, instead of popular titles or free items.

Keeping in mind that free-to-play games for PCs are gaining popularity these days, it makes a lot of sense for Nvidia to support developers of such titles in order to ensure high performance on its graphics cards. That said, Nvidia’s initiative with F2P credits may be a way to support Hawken, PlanetSide 2 and World of Tanks as a part of its investments into the future of PC gaming.
