Netflix Introduces Profiles for Individualized Streaming Experience

From DailyTech: Netflix is rolling out a new feature that gives users greater personalization and a more social video streaming experience.

Netflix announced "Profiles" today, which allows subscribers to create their own personalized profiles on a Netflix account. Each account can have up to five profiles at no extra charge.

The profiles will keep an eye on individual favorites for each user, such as favorite shows, genres and even viewing habits. Netflix can then offer that user better recommendations based on their profile rather than offering a mess of different recommendations for different users on just one account.

The profiles will also be social, allowing individual users to tie their Netflix profiles to their Facebook accounts. That way, subscribers of both services can share their profiles and offer recommendations.

The new feature rolls out globally starting today, and will make its way to all users within two weeks. The profiles can be created using the Netflix website or PlayStation 3, and can be accessed on a variety of devices including the Netflix website, PS3, Xbox 360, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and most smart TVs.

"We continually innovate and are proud to deliver an even better, more personal Netflix experience," said Neil Hunt, Netflix Chief Product Officer. "Now everyone in your home can have their own Netflix experience, built around the TV shows and movies they enjoy. No longer will your Netflix suggestions be mixed up with those of your kids, a significant other, roommates, or house guests."
