AMD and Partners Begin to Sell FX-9000 Chips to End-Users in North America

From X-bit Labs: Advanced Micro Devices and several e-tailers have quietly started to sell top-of-the-range FX-9370 and FX-9590 central processing units separately in North America. In addition, the company has teamed up with select vendors and now offers highly-discounted bundles featuring its high-performance eight-core microprocessors as well as mainboards, coolers and memory.

Unveiled earlier this year as exclusive microprocessors for high-performance systems only available inside custom-built PCs from companies like iBuyPower, Maingear, Origin PC and the like, AMD FX-9000-series code-named “Centurion” quickly became available as standalone chips in Europe. In the recent days the processors emerged in leading North America-based online stores like Amazon, Newegg, NCIX and TigerDirect both as discrete products as well as inside reasonably priced bundles.

At present, online stores in the U.S. and Canada offer eight-core AMD FX-9370 (4.40GHz clock-rate, 4.7GHz maximum Turbo Core speed, 16MB cache, 220W TDP) in tray or retail bundle for $249 - $299. The higher-performing eight-core AMD FX-9590 microprocessor (4.70GHz clock-rate, 5.0GHz maximum Turbo Core speed, 16MB cache, 220W TDP) are not that affordable, but also available separately for $399, $699, or more.

While this may be a speculation, but it looks like AMD is about to release FX-9000-series microprocessors into the wild officially in the coming weeks. The most likely recommended prices will be $249 for FX-9370 and $399 for FX-9590.
